Ready your weapons...
Well here we are, a new decade already, looking back at 2009...a year many of us will not forget quickly and in most cases one we will want to put behind us as we focus on 2010... In most cases we will define how successful this year will be by how well our teams perform... and our teams will be defined by the quality of people we have in them.
Prepare for Take-Off: look after your ground staff...
I was at a Christening yesterday and saw an old acquaintance... whilst we were waiting to go into the church we got chatting in a small group and he very quickly told us that he received a bit of a shock on Friday... as part of a global rationalisation strategy he was made redundant...He had been in finance all his working life and the past nine years with the same company... and after all things are supposed to be getting better, so the shock is understandable.
Net your candidates...
There is always talk about passive and active candidates... "active candidates" being those who are responding to ads, getting their resumes in front of as many recruiters and potential employers as possible and "passive candidates" being those who have registered an interest usually with one recruiter only and usually with the open brief of "let me know if something comes along", these candidates are usually already working and as a result can be more discerning.

It seems there is a new world... social networking... and there are now a plethora of articles on the internet about this phenomena and how it will change our world... and I am sure they are true..
The Perfect candidate?
Last month's article finished by saying
There is one test that will tell you every time whether someone is a professional recruitment specialist... they will be the ones who are prepared to walk away from work. A professional recruitment specialist is judged by their results and if they are not confident of getting a result they will walk away... next month we will discuss the why, this is so important...
Well here we are and it is next month...
Specialisation
In my previous article we looked at the 'big illusion' surrounding the current economic climate. In that article we discussed what appears to be a candidate rich market due to the high number of applicants, is merely a result of the ease with which applications can be sent today and that this does not necessarily translate into increasing the probability of finding the right candidate for the right job.
Candidate Job Satisfaction, Travel and Training
The candidate market has undergone significant change over the last six months but some fundamentals still remain steady. Recruitment is a dynamic process and it has been heavily influenced recently by the prevailing economic conditions, in order to assist our clients, Frontline Recruitment Group endeavours to provide contemporary market data specific to your industry so that you can continually "tweak" your candidate attraction strategies.
Understanding Candidate Behaviour
There is no doubt that the recruitment and employment market has changed, so we took the opportunity to identify what these changes were, what is driving candidate behaviour and what candidates are looking for in this new market. During February and March 2009 Frontline Recruitment Group conducted over 600 surveys with candidates that came into our agencies for an interview. In this article, the General Manager of Frontline Recruitment Group, provides an insight into recruitment in the retail sector.
Who does what around here?
Starting out right with new employees requires some good planning and documentation. Most employers mean well, but all too often the formal Job Descriptions quickly evaporate after hiring.
How can you be sure you are hiring the best employees?
By using an interview technique that draws on both behavioural and performance based methodologies you will have a better chance of securing the right person for your organisation.

War for talent
The battle of Waterloo took place on 18th June 1815. This Battle marked the end of 25 years of the Napoleonic Wars. It saw Napoleon Bonaparte with 74,000 troops oppose the Duke of Wellington with 67,000 troops on a hillside south of Brussels in Belgium. These two armies walked to war.
How to hook the talent you need
The skills shortage is starting to bite and the latest National Salary Survey from the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) shows that average staff turnover has increased to 12.6%, up from 11.5% in the previous study and 9.9% the year before that and that annual salaries at large companies increased by 4.6% in 2006/07.
What are your employees New Year's resolutions
The New Year is stretching out ahead of us, but the recruitment storyline isn't changing much. In other words, experts predict it will be just as hard -- if not harder -- to attract and retain the best talent in 2008 as it was in 2007.
Recruiting through the ages
There are four generations that are participating in the workforce now: the almost retired World War II generation, the getting ready to retire Baby Boomers, the mainstream Gen-Xers and the emerging Gen-Yers.
Why brand matters in recruitment marketing
Much has been written about the fact New Zealand's job market is at near capacity, and the various issues that it raises in terms of attracting, recruiting, and retaining the talent needed to achieve your organisational goals. Focusing on your Employer Brand is a key strategy to ensure your organisation can meet the challenges of the current candidate short market.
Poaching staff may leave you swimming with the sharks
Poaching, also know as headhunting, is the practice of recruiting people from other companies by offering inducements. Poaching costs businesses good staff, drives up employment costs and causes bitter disputes between competitors.
Bridging the skills gap
Employers and recruiters need to work together to uncover appropriately skilled workers in a shrinking workforce. Skill gaps are where existing employees lack the required qualifications, experience and/or specialised skills to meet the firm's skill needs for an occupation.
Attracting and keeping healthy employees
Rapidly aging, and shrinking, workforces around the industrialised world are forcing employers to deal with a new phenomenon, a looming massive shortage of skilled, productive workers for the next decade or more.
Turning off staff turnover
Engender loyalty by engaging your employees in the company. According to the recent Australian Institute of Management's (AIM) National Salary Survey 2007, there is further negative fallout from the ongoing skills shortage, with voluntary staff turnover rates at 12.6 per cent for 2006/2007.
